Squirt Minors Weekend Report

Al Rogers The Clipper Squirt Minors split games this weekend defeating the Hamden B team 13-0 and dropping the Sunday away game to the New Hampshire Avalanche 2-4.

Saturday's game was goalie Al Rogers (right) first shut-out of the year. He benefited from the Clipper's swarming defense made up of Matt Trevethan (8), Mario Marena (6), Nick Adamsons (99), Nick Waznia, Matt Bucher (28), and Joe Villano (12), who completely shut down Hamden's larger offensive lines, holding them to only 11 shots on goal.

The Clipper goals, however, came early and often. The offensive blitz started 51 seconds into the game with a goal by Christian DiDonato (25) and did not let up until Taggart Couriveau (24) scored the Clipper's last goal late in the third period. In between, three additional goals were scored by Taggart Corriveau (24), three goals by Evan Sliker (4), two by Kevin Landau (16) and one each to Adam Shea (98), Taylor Thomas (7) and Will Lindlauf (9). The team's passing was effective and seventeen assists were spread out amongst Nick Adamsons (99), Adam Aresco (3), Matt Bucher (28), Christian DiDonato (25), Will Lindlauf (9), Mario Marena (6), Dave Sevigny (88), Adam Shea (98), Evan Sliker (4), Matt Trevethan (8) and Taylor Thomas (7). After it was all said and done, the Clippers had a total of forty-eight shots on goal.

Sunday's game in New Hampshire against a tough Avalanche team was the Clipper Squirt Minor's first loss of the season. The boys all played hard but were unable to defeat the Avalanche after they took a 2-0 lead on two goals, scored seconds apart, late in the first period. Christian DiDonato (25) and Adam Shea (98) scored the Clippers only two goals and Taggart Corriveau (24), Evan Sliker (4) and Will Lindlauf (9) each had assists.
