Bantam Minors Weekend Report

This week the Connecticut Clippers Bantam Minor team competed with two non-league opponents and finished with a 1-1 record.

Saturday saw the powerfull Suffolk PAL team from Long Island roll into Cromwell and earn a hard fought 5-0 victory over the Clippers. The first period ended with Suffolk up only 1-0 thanks to good goaltending by Trevor Hirst and the hard hitting of the defensive tandem of Mike Diglio and David Beisler.

The second period saw good fast paced and clean hockey with suffolk up 3-0 to end the period. Suffolk scored two goals late to finish the scoring but the Clippers continued to play hard in the defeat.

Sunday the Clippers traveled to Connecticut College to face the Bantam A team from Southeastern. The bigger stronger Southeastern team took the body early and often but the discipline of the Clippers in playing their position hockey enabled them to escape the first period 0-0.

The second period saw more of the same as goaltender Scotty Steele made 14 saves in the second period alone. The Clippers started the third period slowly as it seemed the more physical Southeastern team was wearing down the Clippers.

The team maintained their discipline and Sam Nassetta scored a goal with 7 minutes left in the third to take a 1-0 lead. 45 seconds later Nick Kruczek scored an insurance goal to give the Clippers a hard fought clean 2-0 win. Scotty Steele was outstanding in net with a combined 28 saves for the shut out.

A great team effort and disciplined style of play gave the Bantam Minor team it's second win of the season!
