PeeWee Minors Weekend Report

This weekend the team traveled north to Hooksett, NH for a rematch of last weeks unexpected easy victory over the NH Avalanche in which they had won 12-2. The team quickly realized the challenge ahead with 5 new players that had been missing from the previous game due to a conflicting football game and had not been able to make the trip to CT and the Clippers found themselves down 4-0 by the middle of the second period when the coach called for a quick timeout.

Josh is no stranger to this situation being a former player himself -- he was able to pull the kids together and got them to regroup, focus, settle down and start over - telling them to win the rest of the game as if it was a 0-0 game and he'd take it from there. By now the kids realized the previous weeks game was no indication of their opponents ability and picked up their own game and started to play - cutting the Avalanche's lead in half to a 4-2 deficit by the end of the 2nd period. The 3rd period was all Clippers as their dry-land training and intense on-ice practices provided the added endurance to outlast their opponents and come away with yet another victory over the Avalanche by a final score of 6-4.

Following the game the team moved down to Woburn, MA and checked into the Marriott where they would check-in before heading off for an exciting evening in Boston. The team arrived in Boston grabbing a quick bite to eat which was to be followed by a great night of fun watching the Boston Bruins defeat the NY Rangers in a pre-season exhibition game 5-2.

Early the next morning the boys began to gather at breakfast and quickly became restless as they anxiously awaited their departure for their next game against the North Shore Hurricanes in Lynn, MA. They played knee hockey, man tag and other activities to pass the time without getting too out of control and stayed out of trouble until it was time to go.

After a short ride the boys arrived at the William Connery rink in Lynn, MA to face the Hurricanes and it was all business. Although it wasn't their best performance the Clippers clearly overwhelmed the Hurricanes with size, speed and talent - they scored early and never looked back. They played high intensity and over pressured their opponents from the drop of the first puck until the final buzzer. The defense was able to get in on the action with a couple of goals while also providing tremendous support and the goalies had a fairly relaxing afternoon with a couple of great saves, but most of the action was at the other end of the rink as the Clippers easily ran away with this one early rallying for another big win and a final score of 12-0 even with the clock running for the entire 3rd period.

This brings the teams NEEHL (New England Elite Hockey League) record to an impressive 4-0-1 with a total of 43 goals for and has only allowed 10 goals against in its first 5 league games and an overall record of 5-1-1. WOW!!!

What a great start to the 2005/06 season.
