Squirt Minors Weekend Report
The Squirt Minors split games this past weekend losing another one on Saturday to the New Hampshire Avalanche and winning on Sunday in Bridgeport against the Wonderland Wizards.Saturday’s loss was the Clippers second to the New Hampshire Avalanche this season. The first period of Saturday’s game was played close and tough by both teams, and ended in a 1-0 Avalanche lead. After that, it was all Avalanche. In the next two periods they dumped in four more goals. The short-benched Avalanche team consistently beat the Clippers to the puck and dominated defensively. In addition to the hustle in the first period, the other Clipper highlight was the goal scored in the third period to avoid the shut out. Taggart Corriveau scored on a pass from Adam Shea who quickly fed Corriveau off a pass from Christian DiDonato. The final score was Avalanche 5, Clippers 1.
Sunday’s game was more typical Clipper play. On both offense and defense the Clippers were first to the puck and controlled the game. While only leading 1-0 going into the third, the Clippers stepped up their play and scored two more in the third to shut out the Wizards 3-0. Adam Shea scored the first two goals, unassisted, and Taggart Couriveau scored the third goal, also unassisted.
Goalie Al Rogers had 25 saves on Saturday and 17 on Sunday.
