Squirt Minors Weekend Report
The Clipper Squirt Minors had a tough weekend dropping two games to two strong opponents. On Saturday the Clippers played up a level against the East Haven Squirt Major Tier 1 team. The East Haven team was a last minute fill-in for the Connecticut Comets who canceled late in the week. On Sunday the Clippers faced the Springfield Junior Falcons squirt team. The Clippers lost to the East Haven Squirt Majors 10-2. Christian DiDonato and Evan Sliker scored the Clippers only goals and Taggart Corriveau, Sliker, Adam Shea and Matt Boucher all got assists. Goalie Al Rogers made 29 saves.
The game on Sunday was an exciting, close game right up until the last couple of minutes. The Clippers started the game slowly, going down three goals in the first period. They woke up before the score could be run up too much and battled back to end the first period down only 3-2. The first Clipper goal was scored by Dave Sevigny who stuffed a pass from Evan Sliker into the net. Adam Shea fed Sliker the puck for the assist. Christian DiDonato scored the second goal on a redirect off a shot by Will Lindlauf. Lindlauf’s shot came off a pass from Nick Adamsons who also got an assist.
The Clippers’ Taggart Corriveau scored first in the second period off nice passes from Matt Trevethan and Adam Shea to even the score 3-3. The second period ended with Springfield leading 4-3.
Third period play was aggressive and even with neither team scoring for the first thirteen minutes. Then, with two minutes left, the Falcons took a 5-3 lead. Soon after, the wheels completely fell off the Clippers’ cart when, on a delayed call for hooking the Clippers were also penalized for tripping, and with a minute and a half left, the Clippers were on the short end of a 5 on 3 power play. The Falcons made them pay for the penalties by scoring two goals in just 7 seconds. The Falcons added another goal late in the third to hand the Clippers an 8-3 loss.
