Bantam Minors Weekend Report

This past weekend the Clippers battled two non-league opponents that proved to be a very difficult assignment for the young Clipper squad.

Saturday saw the Suffolk PAL team from Long Island come into Cromwell and hand the Bantam Minor team a 5-2 defeat. The action was fast and hard hitting but the Long Island powerhouse jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three minutes left in the second period. The Clippers battled back with Sam Nassetta scoring an unassisted goal with two minutes left in the period to cut the score to 3-1. With 50 seconds left in the period Colin McLeod, who has skated with the club as a practice player, entered the game in his first shift this year and promptly scored a goal with assists going to Kurt Wehr and Jamison Etting to draw to 3-2. The third period saw the Suffolk team open their lead to 4-2 with a goal at the one minute mark. Action went back and forth with Suffolk again scoring with 10 seconds left in the game for the final 5-2 victory.

Sunday the Clippers traveled to New Jersey to face the Kings. The Clippers jumped on top 1-0 with a goal from Bruce Bedrick assisted by Jamison Etting. The period was action-packed with no further scoring. The Kings drew even at 1-1 at the 3 minute mark of the second and took a 2-1 lead with a power play goal at the six minute mark. The Clippers weren't done however and they drew even 2-2 with a goal by Jamison Etting on an assist from Ross Burton just 20 seconds later. The Kings stormed back to take a 3-2 lead with a goal at the end of the second period. The third period was back and forth with both teams having plenty of scoring opportunities. The Kings prevailed with a goal late in the third period to win a hard fought 4-2 victory.

The Clippers face another non-league opponent this weekend in the Western Mass Blades before returning to league action the first week of November. The toughness of the non-league opponents scheduled will hopefully make the Bantam Minors a tough team to beat against their league opponents.
