Squirt Minors Weekend Report

The Clipper Squirt Minors split games this weekend with the Northern Mass Cyclones in a home and away series. The Clippers went at the Cyclones with a strong defense and an explosive offense in the first game but watched the second game slip away as they failed to skate with the same determination as their opponent.

On Saturday the Clippers played on their home ice and dominated the Cyclones. The Clippers amassed a season high 53 shots and points were collected by 13 different players. Evan Sliker opened the scoring early in the first period assisted by Taggart Corriveau and Adam Shea. Matt Bucher scored shortly thereafter off a pass from Christian DiDonato who was fed by Sliker. The first period ended with the Clippers on top 2-0. DiDonato made the score 3-0 early in the second period assisted by Will Lindlauf and Mario Marena. After a goal by the Cyclones, the second period ended with the Clippers up 3-1. The Cyclones came within a goal of the Clippers early in the third, but after that, it was all Clippers. Bucher scored his second goal and then a hat trick third in the third period. Corriveau and Kevin Landau also scored in the third making the final score 7-2. DiDonato, Nick Adamsons, Matt Trevethan, Nick Waznia and Taylor Thomas each had assists in the third and Dave Sevigny had two.

On Sunday the Clippers skated onto the ice at the Dracut Ice Hut confident of another dominating victory. The Cyclones skated out determined to make sure that did not happen. Both the Clippers offense and defense suffered and the team played catch –up hockey from the start. After the Cyclones struck first blood, Evan Sliker put one in for the Clippers, assisted by Taggart Corriveau and Adam Shea. The Cyclones scored twice more to end the first with the Clippers down, 3-1. The teams played a scoreless second period. Early in the third period the Clippers scored when Will Lindlauf crashed the net and put the loose puck through the goalie’s five hole. Shea got the assist. After another Cyclones’ goal, the Clippers moved to within one with just over a minute and a half left in the game when Sliker scored assisted by Nick Waznia and Taylor Thomas. The Clippers pulled goalie Al Rogers and put a sixth skater on the ice in an attempt to tie the game. Despite several quality shots, the clippers came up short and lost 3-4.
