Bantam Minors Weekend Report
The Clippers played two league opponents this weekend and ended the weekend disappointedly picking up only one of four possible points.Saturday, the Clippers faced the NH Avalanche and dropped a 5-3 decision. The first period was a hard hitting fast paced affair that saw both goaltenders stop their opposition and end the period 0-0. The Avalanche scored two goals in a fifteen second span to take a 2-0 lead. The Clippers came back to narrow the gap to 2-1 on a goal by Bruce Bedrick on an assist from Jamison Etting with 10 minutes left in the period. The Avalanche came right back two minutes later to extend their lead to 3-1. The Avalanche took a commanding 4-1 lead at the 4 minute mark.
The Clippers battled back as sam nassetta scored a minute later on an assist from Kurt Wehr to end the period with the Avalanche on top 4-2. The third period saw the Avalanche extend their lead to 5-2 at the 13 inute mark. The Clippers were game but to no avail. Ross Burton narrowed the gap to 5-3 on an assist from Bruce Bedrick with four minutes left.
This was a disappointing loss but coach Burton saw many positives in "this work in progress," especially the improved defensive play of backliner Devon Carfi.
Sunday, the Clippers traveled to Lynn, Massachusetts to face the North Shore Hurricanes but showed no rust from their long drive to jump out in front 1-0 on a goal from Andrew Richard assisted by Ross Burton 5 minutes into the game. The Clippers extended their lead 4 minutes later on a goal from Bruce Bedrick assisted by Devon Carfi. The Hurrricanes came back 2 minutes later and the first period ended with the Clippers on top 2-1. The Hurricanes tied the score with 5 minutes left in the second period. The Clippers again took the lead with three minutes left in the period on a goal from Sam Nassetta assisted by Scotty "Hit Man" Bialczak and Colin Mcleod.
The third period started with the Clippers looking to extend their 3-2 lead and had numerous chances but were unable to "ring the bell". The Hurricanes took advantage of the Clippers inability to score and tied the game 3-3 with 8 minutes left in the game. Despite the outstanding play of Bruce Bedrick, Andrew Richard and Devon Carfi the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
