Squirt Major Weekend Report
This past weekend the Clippers’ Squirt Major team played two road games, winning both contests in convincing fashion. On Saturday the Squirts visited Enfield to play their Squirt A team in an independent league game. The highlight of this game was the Clippers’ team defense as they held their opponents to five shots on goal. Whenever an Enfield skater tried to penetrate the offensive zone, they were surrounded by two and three Clippers at a time. Goal scoring was led by Taggart Corriveau and David Piekut with two goals apiece. Evan Sliker and Will Lindlauf also added goals. Ben Robinson (two), Mario Marena and Adam Aresco assisted on the Clipper goals. Goaltender Brendan Pelletier stopped all five shots he faced to post his first win and shut-out of the season. The final score was Clippers 6-0.
On Sunday, the Squirts traveled to Long Beach to play NEEHL rival New York Applecore. Two words can describe this game for the Clippers…offensive dominance, winning by a 14-7 margin on the road. After Apple core opened the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead, the Clippers ran-off four straight goals before the Applecore could respond with two goals of their own. The Clippers then scored the next ten out of fourteen goals in the contest. All three lines produced goals. The line of Corriveau (five goals, two assists), Sliker (“hat trick”, one assist) and Nick Adamsons (two goals, one assist) scored ten goals. The line of Danny Weir (one goal, one assist), Nick Waznia (one goal) and Aresco (one assist) added two goals. The line of Lindlauf (one goal), Robinson (one goal) and Piekut added two more goals. Defenseman Matt Bucher earned an assist as well. Goalie Alex Ment made 21 saves to earn his first victory as a Clipper. One other note: Megan Geier improved her team leading (tied with Corriveau) plus/minus rating to nine, by being on the ice for six of the Clippers’ goals, while not allowing a goal during the game.
