Squirt Major Weekend Report

This past weekend the Clippers’ Squirt Major team played two games, coming out with a split.

On Saturday the Squirts Majors hosted the Central Squirt A. Right from the opening face-off, the Central team was relentless in keeping the puck in the Clippers’ defensive zone. They out-shot the home team 9-2 in the first period; in taking a 2-0 lead. In the second period, the Clippers woke up and began to pressure the Central defense. With approximately four minutes to play Adam Aresco took a pass from Nick Adamsons and flipped a sweet backhand past the Central goalie. Less than a minute later, Taggart Corriveau scored to tie the game. Adamsons earned an assist. Central however, came right back to score, giving Central a 3-2 at the end of the second. Central then took a 4-2 lead in the third, but the Clippers kept working. While on the powerplay, Corriveau took the puck around the Central goal and fed a scoring pass to Adamsons in the slot to bring the Clippers to within one goal. Central then scored to give them a two goal cushion again. With less than two minutes to go in the game, Corriveau scored again on a nice feed from Evan Sliker. However in keeping form, Central put the game away with a goal off the ensuing face-off. The final score was Central 6 and the Clippers 4. Goaltender Brendan Pelletier made 22 saves in the loss.

On Sunday, the Squirts traveled to Lynn to play NEEHL opponent North Shore Raiders. It was disappointing as the Raiders fielded only seven skaters and a goalie. The result was a lopsided double digit victory for the Clippers. Nick Waznia and Danny Weir led the charge, each posting hat tricks. The Clippers also had several two-goal scorers (Will Lindlauf, Matt Bucher, Adamsons and Aresco). Matt Trevethan, David Piekut, Corriveau and Sliker each notched single goals. The highlight for this game was not the scoring, but the fact that the Clippers, who had been averaging eight penalties a game, did not take a penalty. Goalie Alex Ment made seven saves to earn his notch his second victory as a Clipper. The Clipper defense also played well allowing only nine shots on goal while pushing the puck up to the forwards in the offensive onslaught.
