Squirt Majors 9/15 - 9/16 Recap

The Squirt Majors began an exciting weekend of away games in Port Washington, New York against the Long Island Edge on Saturday. The team fought hard with Chase Harwell, assisted by David Piekut scoring the first goal for the Clippers. Taggart Corriveau, along with Chase Harwell added a short handed goal and a sweet backhanded goal to the Clippers’ score board while defense, led by Evan Sliker, continued to fight the good fight. The end of the first period saw one to three on the score board. The Edge would score only one more goal in the 2nd and 3rd periods, thanks to a penalty shot given to them in the 2nd period. However, the Clippers continued to fight and had Taggart Corriveau coming up with two more goals, with an assist going to defensive player J.R. Stiles ending the game with a 5-2 win.

On Sunday the Clippers began in Wall, New Jersey playing against the Titans. It was a day of total dominance and hard team work for the Clippers team. Brendan Pelletier saw his first of two shut out games for the day, with the defensive line able to shut down the Titans’ offensive lines allowing only two shots on goal, and the Clippers’ offense shined with 52 shots on goal. While the Titans’ goalie saw a lot of action, he only allowed in 10 goals throughout the three periods. Jarod Florian started the team off in the first period with their first and only goal for that period. The second period saw five more goals from Chris Adamsons, assisted by Tyler Augustinsen, David Piekut, assisted by Taggart Corriveau, and exciting break away for Philip Motter, with the assist going to Tyler Juiano who took a swing at the puck while down on the ice to get it out front and available for Motter to skate away with, Tyler Augustinsen took another from the face off and scored unassisted, and the final of the period again to Adamsons with Florian giving aid. Four more goals were scored during the third period, with defensive player Evan Sliker adding to his phenomenal weekend with a goal assisted by his defensive teammate Noah Sanders, Tyler Juiano, assisted by Jarod Florian playing defense, a hat-trick earned by Adamsons with assistance from David Piekut, and Juliano coming in again with assistance to give Noah Sanders his first goal and ending the game at 10-0 win.

The team then traveled to Hamilton, New Jersey where they faced the Mercer Chiefs. Starting the team off with their first of four goals in the first period was Taggart Corriveau assisted by David Piekut where he picked up the rebound after hard offensive plays by the team. Piekut followed up with a goal of his own with help from his teammates Chase Harwell and Corriveau. Tyler Augustinsen, assisted by Jarod Florian, got into the action giving the Clippers a three goal lead, and Corriveau finished off the period with a win of the face-off on a short-handed shift to bring the score to 0-4. Corriveau earned his hat-trick and the only goal in the 2nd period, with a nice one-timer coming from a sweet pass made by Piekut across the ice. The 3rd period was hard fought and paid off. Tyler Juiano, assisted by Evan Sliker, scored the first goal of the 3rd, and Harwell and Corriveau teamed up again to score, winning the puck in a defensive face off and skating nearly unchallenged down the ice. David Piekut scored his second with help from Harwell, and Tyler Augustinsen chimed back in with help from Chris Adamsons. Corriveau added another to the board with help from Piekut and Harwell, bringing the Clippers to another 10-0 game. However, Adamsons was not yet finished, and Augustinsen returned the favor and gave him aid to give him his fourth goal of the day and end the game at a 11-0 win. While the Mercer Chiefs proved to challenge Brenden Pelletier, he was not about to give up his streak and held them to zero with the help of his defensive lines who worked hard all day to help clear the way for their offense who took full advantage of the teamwork on the ice.
