Squirt Majors 9/22 Recap

Sticking close to home this weekend, the Squirt Majors began the weekend with a rematch against the Long Island Edge on Saturday. The team fought hard with Chase Harwell, assisted by J.R. Stiles scoring the first goal for the Clippers. Taggart Corriveau followed with an unassisted goal taken from the face-off and Evan Sliker, finished the first period off with another goal assisted by Corriveau. The Edge rallied in the 2nd period, scoring three to tie the game. The fight wasn’t over however, as Corriveau and Harwell came in to score two more goals for the Clippers in the end of the 2nd period. The Clippers were able to hold the Edge off in the 3rd period, and finished the game with a 5-3 win.

On Sunday the Clippers hosted the Valley Jr. Warriors and found themselves pitted against a tough, hard fighting team. The Clippers came on strong in the 1st period with Jarod Florian assisted by Tyler Agustinsen scoring the first goal in the first minute of play. Taggart Corriveau, assisted by Chase Harwell, would score the last goal seen in the 1st and 2nd periods by the Clippers. The Valley Jr. Warriors came on strong at the end of the 1st period and dominated throughout the 2nd period, leading the Clippers 5-2 into the third period. The team pulled together as Corriveau came in unassisted to score the first goal of the third period quickly. Augustinsen scored yet another goal, assisted by Corriveau and Harwell, bringing the score to a one goal difference. The team continued to fight hard, but had a hard time retaking the offensive position. With one minute and two seconds left in the game Augustinsen, assisted again by his teammates Corriveau and Harwell, tied the game and gave the team the needed push. Corriveau took Augustinsen’s lead and scored a goal, assisted by Harwell, that took the Clippers into the lead. However, a one goal lead wasn’t enough for Harwell, and he took the puck unassisted and scored the final goal of the game with 14 seconds left on the clock. The Clippers came together as a team and scored three goals in one minute and two seconds, to take the lead and never look back with a 7-5 win.
