Former CT Clipper Nick Bonino makes his first appearance at the Bean Pot!

Boston College's Nathan Gerbe (9) and Boston University's Nick Bonino (13) battle for the puck in the second period of the Bean Pot college hockey tournament, Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 in Boston. Former CT Clipper, Nick Bonino, a freshman at Boston University and the 6th round draft choice for the San Jose Sharks in the 2007 NHL entry draft, played in his first Bean Pot Tournament in the last weeks. Losing an overtime heartbreaker in the semifinals to Boston College, Nick and his BU Terrier squad went on to win the championship consolation game 5-4 against Northeastern University, with Nick scoring his 10th goal of the season.

The CT Clippers are always excited to hear of Nick's successes, as he was one of our own, playing Squirt through Junior B as a CT Clipper and then Junior A Wolf Pack hockey.

Yvon Corriveau, former NHL player, San Jose Shark, and current CT Clipper coach has a particular interest in following Nick Bonino's career... living only 2 houses away in Newington before the Bonino family relocated to Farmington, Yvon literally watched Nick grow up playing street hockey in front of his house.

"He was the nicest, most polite kid in our neighborhood... he would bring over clothes and stuff that he had outgrown to give to my son, and would always include him in their street hockey games, even though he was 9 years younger than Nick. He would come in to visit and he'd ask me about this game or that game, this player or that player. I wish he was still my neighbor, because now I would be the one asking him about his games and telling him how proud I am of how hard he worked to achieve his dreams. Where he is today does not surprise me in the least - he's a very gifted, and talented young man who never gave up to get where he is today - making the sacrifices necessary, and doing so well academically. Good things happen to good people. I couldn't be happier for him, and I wish him continued success throughout his career."

You are a wonderful role model for today's Clippers, Nick!
